This species is distinguished from its congeners by the combination of the following characters: body depth 27.1-34.0% of standard length; interorbital width 22.2-28.7% of head length; head depth 72.9-97.0% of HL; 15-20 branched rays on anal fin; 37-40 lateral line scales; one or two maxillary teeth; two humeral spots; and absence of bony hooks in the anal fin of males (Ref. 94017).
