Definition of Term

flotation
(English) The term usually implies the removal of solid particle material. Macroflotation is the removal of macroscopic particles; microflotation (also called colloid flotation), which is the removal of microscopic particles, particularly colloids or micro-organisms; molecular flotation which is the removal of surface inactive molecules, involves the use of a collector (surfactant) which yields an insoluble product; precipitate flotation, in which a precipitate is removed by a collector which is not the precipitating agent.
