Known from Lake Turkana as the subspecies Brycinus nurse nana (Ref. 52331, 52871). Specimens of Athi and Tana drainages, as recorded by Copley (1941) (Ref. 41374), are misidentifications of Brycinus affinis, specimens of Lake Victoria drainage are misidentifications of Brycinus jacksonii and Brycinus sadleri (Ref. 52331).
