Type locality, Teluk Sebakor, Fak Fak Peninsula, Papua Barat Province, NCIP 6332 (holotype of Chrysiptera giti. 3.6 cm SL, male). Known only from two Indonesian locations, in the vicinity of Sebakor Bay on the southern coast of the Fak Fak Peninsula of western New Guinea and the Togean Islands off northeastern Sulawesi. Observed to be common at both the Togean Islands and in Sebakor Bay, but generally replaced by C. hemicyanea in other parts of the Fak Fak Peninsula (Ref. 74966).
