A lessepsian migrant, first recorded from Haifa before 1993 (Ref. 72453). Known also from Elat and Nuweiba.
Museum: Elat, Gulf of Aqaba, HUJ 16517 (holotype of R. trewavasae, 49.2 cm SL) (Ref. 7446). Entered the Mediterranean via the Suez Canal. The speculated reasons for its success in establishment are presumably the long pelagic larval stage which enable the crossine og long distances (Ref. 43448).
