Common in the Maracaibo system where it is caught and used as bait for Cynoscion acoupa. Also recorded from Tacarigua and Unare lagoons and the Orinoco delta (Ref. 13628), Guanipa river - Venado channel (Ref. 51849). Museum: Orinoco River, USNM 233612 (Ref. 27974).
