Introduced and known from many waters in Kenya (Ref. 52331), including Athi River (Ref. 30558, Ref. 52331), Tana River (Ref. 52331), Lake Baringo (Ref. 52331), upper Pangani drainage and Lake Jipe (Ref. 52331), Lake Naivasha (Ref. 52331), Northern Ewaso Nyiro River (Ref. 52331) and Lake Victoria drainage (Ref. 52331). It is introduced in 1950 from Uganda to Kenya for mosquito control (Ref. 1739, Ref. 52331), probably also introduced by aquarists (Ref. 52331).
