Known from the Black Sea, Sea of Marmara, Aegean Sea and its watersheds, European Black Sea watersheds, European Mediterranean Sea watersheds and Anatolian Black Sea watersheds (Ref. 58342). Also Ref. 106151. The culture of this species on the Black Sea Coast of Turkey started in 1988 (Ref. 57271) but was not successful due to technical, ecological (high temperature of the Black sea surface water) and marketing problems. Nevertheless, few companies are still involved in Atlantic salmon farming in Turkey (Ref. 13686). Threatened by commercial fishing, habitat loss, eutrophication/pollution, construction of weirs/dams in rivers, water abstraction and aquaculture or introductions (Ref. 58342). Listed on Appendix III of the Bern Convention (protected fauna;

except at sea) and on Annexes II and V of the EU Habitats Directive (only in fresh water). Stocks of non-Black Sea watershed origin should not be protected (Ref. 58342).

Status of threat: Extinct (Ref. 58342). EurTurk
