Widespread in the mainstreams of Gandaki, Kosi, Karnali and Mahakali (Ref. 12045), preferring pool/run areas of swift streams (Ref. 57735). Also occurs in Bagmati (Ref. 40948). Used in folk medicine and as ornamental fish by Buddhists (Ref. 57735). Also Ref. 4832, 6351, 41236.

Status of Threat: Conservation dependent and uncommon or lower risk least concern species (Ref. 85009).
