Type locality of the neotype of Enteromius pallidus: 'Baakens River system at Targetklooff downstream of bridge on the road to Walmer, (33°58'12"S, 25°35'40"E), altitude 20 m, Port Elizabeth, South Africa' (Ref. 122070). Endemic to the eastern Cape Fold Ecoregion, where it is distributed from the Krom to the Great Fish river system (Ref. 122070), including Krom, Gamtoos, Baakens, Coega, Swartkops, Sundays, Boesmans, Kariega, Kowie and Great Fish rivers (Ref. 122070). Specimens identified as Enteromius pallidus from tributaries of the Orange-Vaal, Tugela, Mfolozi, Pongolo, Incomati and Limpopo rivers (Ref. 7248, 13332) are not related and should be treated as misidentifications (Ref. 122070).
