Short description Identification keys | Morphology | Morphometrics

Vertebrae: 28 - 29. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following set of characters: anterior and median portions of lower lip with distinctly coalesced, longitudinally elongated papillae; a series of platelets covering the pectoral girdle between insertions of pectoral-fin spines with unique pattern consisting of a continuous irregular line varying in size and spacing; absence of the maxillary barbel in the lateral margin of the lower lip; teeth in each premaxilla 60-82 and dentary 55-80; club-shaped pectoral-fin spine; depressed head, with head depth 38.5-45.2% HL; absence of the first dorsal-fin spinelet (132467).
Cross section: flattened.

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

The species inhabits clear, fast-flowing water, with a substrate composed of smooth rocky bed and fragmented marginal vegetation. At the type locality (0.5 to 1 m deep and 10 m wide), individuals are abundant in cracks and crevices in the bedrock and can be readily captured manually (Ref. 132467).
