Short description Morphology | Morphometrics

Dorsal soft rays (total): 15; Anal soft rays: 16. This species of the subgenus Photonectes is distinguished by the following set of characters: dorsal- and anal-fin rays are not covered with black fleshy skin; no pectoral fins; pelvic fins inserted closer to the caudal-fin base; IV photophores 34; and IP photophores begin halfway posteriorly on the isthmus; dffers from all other species in the subgenus except Photonectes mirabilis by having a barbel with a small side-branch on the terminal filament; differs from P. mirabilis with gill filaments 'normal' (vs. very reduced), the jaw teeth variable length (vs. short) canines, anal-fin rays 16 (vs. 19-20), blue luminous tissue absent (vs. present), light organs inside the lower jaw absent (vs. three pairs) (Ref. 87305).

Estimates based on models

Phylogenetic diversity index (Ref. 82804):  PD50 = 0.5000   [Uniqueness, from 0.5 = low to 2.0 = high].
Bayesian length-weight: a=0.00302 (0.00117 - 0.00783), b=3.12 (2.89 - 3.35), in cm total length, based on LWR estimates for this (Sub)family-body shape (Ref. 93245).
Trophic level (Ref. 69278):  3.2   ±0.5 se; based on size and trophs of closest relatives
Fishing Vulnerability (Ref. 59153):  Low vulnerability (10 of 100).
