Mjukstrålar i ryggfenan (totalt): 5-6; Mjukstrålar i analfenan: 4. Metamorphosed females differs from Bufoceratias wedli and Bufoceratias thele in having a considerably shorter illicium (25-40% standard length versus 83-225% standard length) and a much larger and more complex esca (Ref. 51070).
