Africa: mainly in Niger and Bénoué basins (Ref. 2940, 81282), but also in Moa, Cavally, Sassandra, Bandama, and Comoé Rivers (Côte d'Ivoire), Pra River (Ghana) and Cross River (Nigeria, Cameroon) (Ref. 2940, 81282, 81639).

Spine dorsali (totale): 0; Raggi dorsali molli (totale): 11; Spine anali 0; Raggi anali molli: 16 - 18. Diagnosis: body depth 3.5-5.3x and head length 4.2-5.1x SL; eye diameter 2.8-3.5x head length (Ref. 2940, 81282). Scale formula: 7.5-8.5/41-46/(3.5)4.5(5.5); 14 scales around caudal peduncle; 8 dorsal-fin branched rays; 13-15 anal-fin branched rays (Ref. 2940, 81282, 81639).

Affinities: may be sympatric with R. senegalensis and R. steindachneri and has always been mistaken for R. senegalensis, which is the reason for it not being discovered. Maximum TL was recorded at 12.5 cm (Ref. 2801).
