Espinas dorsales (total): 8 - 9; Radios blandos dorsales (total): 11-12; Espinas anales 0; Radios blandos anales: 11. Upper preopercular spine long, nearly reaching to near margin of opercle. Preorbital spine slight, often lacking. Infraorbital ridge usually smooth over anterior 1/4 of eye. Suborbital ridge bearing 3-4 spines behind eye. Interopercular flap absent. Iris lappet simple.
