Dorsale stekels (totaal): 13; Dorsale zachte stralen (totaal): 11-12; Anale stekels 2; Anale zachte stralen: 11. Body blue; dorsal fin blue, yellow distally; caudal peduncle, caudal and anal fins yellow; pelvic fins yellow at edges.

Maximum depth from Ref. 126840. Adults inhabit offshore reefs on relatively level bottoms, often covered with coralline algae rhodoliths (Ref. 7247). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).
