Distribution: Atlantic and Pacific. Lacking in upper jaw (maxilla and premaxilla absent). No pectorals. Dorsal and anal fins lack bony supports. Rostral fang with connected glands. Maximum length 15.9 cm. Most species taken below 2,000 m. Suggested new common name for this family from Ref. 58418.
