Diagnostic characters: distinguished from Clevelandia ios by: anterior melanophores along dorsal midline; distinguished from Coryphopterus nicholsi by: total myomeres (fewer in C. nicholsi, 25-26 vs. 37-38). Pigment: dorsal surface of swimbladder; three dorsal midline melanophores, posteriormost forming a band at about myomeres 19-26. Sequence of fin development: caudal, 2nd dorsal and anal, 1st dorsal and pectorals, pelvics.
