Vent opens laterally at base of ventral finfold. Pigmentation: Before the yolk is fully absorbed, the 2 postanal bars are quite obvious, and the caudal region is free from pigment. Pigmentation scarse and scattered over anterior portion of body. |

Yolk-sac is absorbed at about 4.5 mm; At 25-30 mm, young begin to resemble adults. Pigmentation: Postanal pigmentation consists of 2 dorsal and 2 ventral bars of melanophores, the dorsal bars being longer than the ventral bars (opposite to the arrangement in the cod). This pigmentation persists until about 8-9 mm, then pigment becomes scattered. Sequence of fin development: Caudal (9 mm); dorsal and anal (15 mm). |
