Definition of Term

cooling tower
(English) A structure for cooling water through partial evaporation. The steam to be cooled is broken into a fine mist to increase the surface area and promote cooling and then mixed with air brought in by natural convection currents or forced in by fans. The cooling water is recycled and only evaporation losses must be made up.
