Definition of Term

bay coastline
(English) Major indentation of shore area on otherwise undifferentiated coastline with at least partially protected conditions; the opening is generally less wide than the length; either marine (free of water discharge and major groundwater discharge) or estuarine (having permanent or significant seasonal fresh surface water or groundwater inflow). (French) Découpure majeure de la région du rivage sur un littoral autrement non différencié avec au moins des conditions partialement protégées; l'ouverture est généralement moins large que la longueur; soit marin (libre de décharge de l'eau et décharge de l'eau souterraine majeure) ou estuarine (d’eau de la surface fraîche saisonnière permanente ou considérable ou afflux de l'eau souterraine).
