Genetic Diversity Tool
Genetic Diversity Risk Indicator

This diagnostic tool provides a rapid assessment of the risk of genetic diversity loss in commercial fish populations based on their levels of genetic diversity in the
Cytochrome Oxidase subunit I mitochondrial gene (COⅠ-π) and geographic location. Grounded in the method proposed by Petit-Marty et al. (2022), it categorises
populations into risk levels—High, Medium, or Low—by comparing COⅠ-π values against threshold ranges established from a global synthesis of empirical data
collected for over 700 fish species. Ideal for preliminary screening, this tool supports conservation and fisheries management by highlighting populations that may
warrant closer genetic monitoring to ensure their long-term sustainability. Learn more

The COⅠ-π thresholds used in this tool are derived from a global dataset. See the list of species with published genetic diversity estimates.
