Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Pseudocrenilabrinae
Max. size:  12 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; pH range: 8.5 - 9; dH range: 10 - 12,
Distribution:  Africa: endemic to Lake Tanganyika, patchy distribution in the northern part of the lake (Ref. 6770, 46829, 97323).
Biology:  Prefers the upper rocky habitat where it feeds on the algae attached to the rocks (Ref. 7343, 46829). Occurs to a depth of 30 m; maternal mouthbrooder; females guard their offspring for a few days after releasing them for first time (Ref. 46829). Aquarium keeping: many females for one male; minimum aquarium size 150 cm (Ref. 51539).
IUCN Red List Status: Vulnerable (VU); Date assessed: 31 January 2006 (D2) Ref. (124695)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Occurs from border between Tanzania and Burundi to Malagarasi River (Ref. 6770, 46829, 97323). Recorded around and south of Malagarasi River delta (Ref. 6770, 46829, 52921, 97323). Found at Bulu POint, Karilani Island and Luagala Point (Ref. 97323).
