Family:  Schilbeidae (Schilbid catfishes)
Max. size:  183 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; brackish, amphidromous
Distribution:  Asia: Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal and probably Myanmar.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabit rivers. Occur in shoals. Adults ascend from estuaries into large rivers for breeding during monsoons. After the water level recedes, they often get stranded in small pools (Ref. 4833). Oviparous, eggs are unguarded (Ref. 205).

Country info:  Occurs in eastern Punjab and Haryana, Gangetic estuaries, Bihar, West Bengal, Darjeeling (Ref. 45255), Indo-Gangetic basin and Mahanadi (Ref. 41236). Also found in Chilka Lake (Ref. 29108). Also Ref. 4833.
