Family:  Latilidae (Deepwater tilefishes)
Max. size:  40 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 100 - 250 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Australia, off New Caledonia (Ref. 8991) and Papua New Guinea (Ref. 6192).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in the continental shelf (Ref. 7300). A benthic carnivore feeding on fish (Apogonops anomalous), mollusks, crustaceans (crabs, amphipods, and stomatopods), and polychaetes (Ref. 8991).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Specimen caught near the edge of a barrier reef at 250 m off Nouméa (Fourmanoir pers. Comm.). Also Ref. 75154.
