Similar to Yunnanilus macroistainus but differs from the latter in having the following characters: 10-12 square black spots on each side of body (vs. 2 rows of 8-10 circular black spots on the upper side of body); dorsal fin rays iii-8 (vs. iii-7); head length in body length 3.7-3.9 (vs. 4.0-4.3); and caudal peduncle length in body length 6.14-6.76 (vs. 7.0-7.4) (Ref. 84761).
