Family:  Muraenidae (Moray eels), subfamily: Uropterygiinae
Max. size:  72 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 0 - 35 m
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific: Mexico and the Galapagos Islands.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 0-0; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 0-0. Covered with large dark purplish-brown spots arranged in 2 to 3 irregular series on a reddish- tan background.
Biology:  A rare snake moray that has been collected on reef flats (Ref. 1602).

Threat to humans:  harmless
