Family:  Nototheniidae (Cod icefishes), subfamily: Trematominae
Max. size:  29.7 cm TL (male/unsexed); 26 cm TL (female); max.weight: 342.0 g; max.weight: 267.6 g
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 0 - 732 m
Distribution:  Southern Ocean: Scotia Arc, South Orkney Islands, Davis and Ross seas.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 4-6; Dorsal soft rays (total): 32-35; Anal soft rays: 29-31. Brownish with 2 or 3 large dark spots, part of spinous dorsal blackish (Ref. 11892).
Biology:  Adults live on seafloor and spawns during summer (Ref. 45168). They feed primarily on errant polychaetes, with lesser amounts of amphipods, fish eggs and mollusks.
