Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: mainstream of the Amazon River from Manaus in the central portions of the basin to the vicinity of Iquitos in north-eastern Peru, the Río Negro, and from the Río Orinoco basin in both Venezuela and south-eastern Colombia.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Juveniles were observed to live within várzea along the shores of the main river, whereas adults are inhabitants of main river channels (Ref. 84053).
