Family:  Pomacentridae (Damselfishes), subfamily: Microspathodontinae
Max. size:  17 cm TL (male/unsexed); max. reported age: 32 years
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 2 - 16 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific: Baja California, Mexico to Lobos de Afuera, Peru, including the Cocos and Galapagos islands (Ref. 9334).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 15-16; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 13-13
Biology:  Adults inhabit rocky reefs (Ref. 9334). Territorial herbivore, feed on farmed turf-algae within their territories (Ref. 57615). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205).
