Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Pseudocrenilabrinae
Max. size:  10 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; pH range: 6 - 8; dH range: 5 - 19,
Distribution:  Africa: Pool Malebo (=Stanley Pool) and the lower Congo River in both Republic of Congo and Democratic Republic of the Congo (Ref. 52307).
Diagnosis:  Description: old males sometimes with an enormous and well-developed hump on head; mouth stout (Ref. 52307). Coloration: body dark brown to blackish; body scales dark with light margins; sometimes some dark vertical bars or 2 horizontal stripes present on body (Ref. 52307).
Biology:  Rheophilic; feeds primarily on algae; pair-bonding, cave spawning species (Ref. 52307). Aquarium keeping: in pairs; minimum aquarium size 80 cm (Ref. 51539).
