Family:  Serranidae (Sea basses: groupers and fairy basslets)
Max. size:  10 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 15 - 110 m
Distribution:  Western Atlantic: southern Florida in USA, Bahamas and Mexico to northern South America.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 10-10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12
Biology:  Occurs in deeper waters around coral reefs. Forms small groups to feed on plankton (Ref. 9710). Synchronously hermaphroditic.
