Environment:  demersal; marine
Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: Japan. Needs better reference.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 8-9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-11; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 10-10; Vertebrae: 25-25. Two rows of white spots above lateral line; lowermost dark stripe behind eye extending horizontally backward above pectoral fin base (in TP), or reaching backward to middle of opercle (in IP); TP, body greenish (brick red in specimens from deeper water), and with large black blotch on spinous dorsal region between fourth and sixth spines; lengths of the first dorsal, third anal and pelvic spines somewhat shorter than those of P. eoethinus.
