Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 0 - 1008 m
Distribution:  Northwest Atlantic: above the continental slope of eastern North America.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 42-42; Anal soft rays: 35-35; Vertebrae: 47-47. No coronal pore, io 6 (5+1), 6 preoperculo-mandibular pores and 1 suprabranchial pore; lower pectoral lobe wide and thick, handlike, 1 pectoral notch ray, gill slit distinctly oblique and short (about equal to eye), large mouth (cleft reaching to below pupil, upper jaw 13.5% SL), caudal part of body unpigmented.
Biology:  Reported maximum depth at 1258 m (Ref. 120413).
