Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Myctophinae
Max. size:  5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range - 2500 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Circumglobal between the Subtropical Convergence and the Antarctic Polar Front, but extends to 35°S (Australian Bight) and 32°S (off Argentina and Chile). Southern Ocean: at 53°18'S, 49°57'W and 45°25'S, 36°32'E.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-13; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 23-27
Biology:  High-oceanic and mesopelagic (Ref. 4066, 75154); found between 150-450 m at night (Ref. 4066). Matures at about 3.2 to 4.4 cm SL.
