Family:  Anthiadidae (Fairy basslets or Streamer basses)
Max. size:  3.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 6 - 75 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: East Africa to Fiji, north to southern Japan, south to Queensland. Recently recorded from Tonga (Ref. 53797).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 10-10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-14; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 6-7. GR with additional 3-6 rudiments. Description: Characterized by pale tan color with irregular, brownish red blotches; diagonal brown bar under eye; upper and lower caudal fin base and base of last dorsal-fin rays with dark brown spot with adjacent white spot; 9-19 coarse serrae at upper margin of preopercle; deeply notched dorsal fin between spinous and soft portions; slightly rounded caudal fin; greatest depth of body 2.6-3.1 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  A cryptic (Ref. 2334), shallow-water species collected with the use of ichthyocides (Ref. 26833). Secretive amongst small boulders or bommies on coastal sand slopes with rich invertebrate and algae growth (Ref. 48635). Solitary in crevices (Ref 90102).
