Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Uruguay.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-9; Anal soft rays: 9-11. This species is distinguished by the following set of characters: symmetric hood-like structure located immediately anterior to the urogenital papilla in females present; lateral spot usually present; large papillae at the mandibular symphysis of large adult females absent; possession of hooks well developed and positioned in distal portion of gonopodial appendices of males (Ref. 137467).
