Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Pseudocrenilabrinae
Max. size:  18 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater,
Distribution:  Africa: endemic to Lake Tanganyika, lake-wide distribution (Ref. 46829), but not existing in Burundi waters (Ref. 6770).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Lives in the shallow precipituous rocky habitat, which is characterized by rocks piled on top of each other forming a complicated network of caves and crevices (Ref. 46829). Herbivore; feeds on algae which are scraped from rocks Ref. 6770, 46829). Maternal mouthbrooder; males strongly territorial (Ref. 46829).
