Environment:  demersal; marine
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Mozambique (Ref. 5285) to Algoa Bay, South Africa.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 27-43; Dorsal soft rays (total): 6-8; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 27-32. Color varies from maroon to green depending on the weed it inhabits; juveniles with silver patches on sides (Ref. 5496).
Biology:  Found in subtidal weedy areas.
