Family:  Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and seahorses), subfamily: Nerophinae
Max. size:  19 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; brackish; depth range - 5 m, amphidromous
Distribution:  Asia and Oceania: Indonesia, Japan, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and New Caledonia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 53-63. This species is distinguished by having 27-33 tail rings (Ref. 132364).
Biology:  Found in streams, rivers, and estuaries. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). Males may be brooding at 11.25 cm SL.
