Distribution:  Northwest Pacific: Sea of Japan.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 106-108; Anal soft rays: 92-94; Vertebrae: 113-116. Diagnosis: Distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: deep notch present in pectoral fin; single lateral line on body; no scales on base of pectoral fins; scales present on dorsum before dorsal fin origin; suborbital, pre-opercular, and last postorbital pores with risen rim; lips whitish; body without whitish transverse bars; pectoral fin membrane and anterior part of dorsal fin membrane without black spots; basal color of vertical fins black (Ref. 54820).
