Family:  Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and seahorses), subfamily: Syngnathinae
Max. size:  10.7 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 1 - 6 m
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific: known only from New Zealand (including the Chatham Islands).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Found in algal beds. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). Males may be brooding at 7 cm SL.
