Family:  Syngnathidae (Pipefishes and seahorses), subfamily: Syngnathinae
Max. size:  21.45 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; depth range 37 - 212 m
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific: endemic to New Zealand.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Specimens from midwater and bottom trawls. Ovoviviparous (Ref. 205). The male carries the eggs in a brood pouch which is found under the tail (Ref. 205). Males may be brooding at 14.6 cm SL.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 03 December 2015 Ref. (123251)
