Lampanyctus wisneri (Zahuranec, 2000)

Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Lampanyctinae
Max. size:  8.8 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 600 - 650 m
Distribution:  Atlantic, Indian and Pacific: nearly circumglobal in subtropical convergence waters (the gap south and east of Australia appear to be real and not an artifact of sampling effort).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-15; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 16-19; Vertebrae: 36-38. 13-16 AO photophores; 8-10 tooth patches on the lower limb of the second gill arch; 34-37 lateral line organs (Ref. 36121). Pectoral fins completely lacking in subadult and adult stages; vestigial in small juveniles (less than 3 cm SL); fin rays present but buried in skin in larger juveniles (Ref. 36121).
Biology:  High-oceanic species (Ref. 4066).
