Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Labeoninae
Max. size:  90 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater, potamodromous
Distribution:  Asia: Pakistan, India, Nepal and Bangladesh (Ref. 41236). Recorded from Afghanistan (Ref. 41034), Bhutan (Ref. 40882) and Myanmar (Ref. 57739).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Lives in rivers, lakes and ponds (Ref. 4832); in active currents of large streams and upper reaches of rivers (Ref. 41236). Feeds mostly on algae and diatoms (Ref. 44151). An excellent foodfish (Ref. 4832).
