Family:  Platycephalidae (Flatheads)
Max. size:  25 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 6 - 75 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: Persian Gulf (Ref. 11441) and the Mascarenes to the Philippines, north to southern Japan, south to northern Australia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 9-9; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-12; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 11-13. Second dorsal fin spine noticeably shorter than third. Pectoral fin with a falcate posterior margin and a whitish central area. Interopercular flap present.
Biology:  Found on sand or mud bottoms of the continental shelf (Ref. 3476). Benthic (Ref. 75154).
