Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 5.5 - 6; dH range: 5 - 10
Distribution:  South America: Amazon River basin, in the Negro, Preto da Eva, Urubu and Jamari rivers in Brazil; also in tributaries of the upper Orinoco River basin.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits rivers (Ref. 12251). Also found in swamps and lakes; feeds on aquatic insects and crustaceans during high water, also on fishes during low water seasons (Ref. 40602). Maximum length 35 cm TL (Ref. 2060).
