Max. size:  25 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 225 - 1400 m
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific: off British Columbia, Canada (Ref. 12204), and from Washington, USA (48°N) to Chile (23°S) (Ref. 35760).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 17-20; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 14-16; Vertebrae: 46-50. Dark in color with 2 white tissue patches behind the eye (Ref. 12204). Light organ at tip of lower jaw and long gill filaments not united at their bases (Ref. 12204). Branchiostegal rays: 8-9.
Biology:  Usually near coasts (Ref. 12204). Oviparous, with large mesopelagic larvae (Ref. 35760).
