Family:  Congridae (Conger and garden eels), subfamily: Heterocongrinae
Max. size:  40 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 30 - 36 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Western Central Pacific: Honiara, Solomon Islands and Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
Diagnosis:  Vertebrae: 196-204. Description: Characterized by light grey overall color; body and posterior of head in densely covered with small brown spots; large black saddle on head enclosing u-shaped white marking; pair of widely spaced black saddles with white center bar on anterior body; origin of dorsal fin slightly anterior to gill opening; proposal length 4.7-6.7% of TL; prenatal length 33.6-39.1% of TL; depth of body at gill opening 1.4-1.9% of TL (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Occurs in colony, on sloping sand bottom (Ref. 33408).
