Distribution:  South America: Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 13-14; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-11; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 7-9; Vertebrae: 28-28. This species is distinguished from all congeners by the following characters: bright yellow color pattern of the unpaired fins (vs. mostly red in other species); covered with white dots aligned between rays; distal border of the dorsal fin and dorsal and ventral contours of caudal fin red with thin light stripes; prominent adipose hump in mature males, extending dorsally above the tip of the longest dorsal-fin spines (vs. less developed) (Ref. 118066).
